As a part of the country’s Roman-Catholic past, most French Easter traditions have a religious background.

The tradition of offering eggs as an Easter gift, for example, rose during the 4th century A.D.  Considered a symbol of rebirth and fertility, many French Easter games involve the use of eggs.  Hunting in the garden for hidden chocolate eggs is a traditional Easter pastime for children.

Another old Easter custom is the contest of rolling raw eggs down a gentle hill. Symbolizing the stone which rolled away from Jesus’ tomb, the surviving egg is declared the victor!

Another very charming ritual (according to which the French church bells do not ring from Good Friday to Easter Sunday morning) tells the story of the “cloches volantes” (the “flying bells”) which   remain silent for a few days in remembrance of Jesus’ passing. To comfort the children, parents explain that all French church bells have flown off to Rome to visit the Pope but that they will return on Sunday morning bearing chocolates and eggs!

The meaning: Place = Square

The history:

Designed and erected over the centuries, Paris’ squares have become the stages of the city’s living memory. These huge “platforms” adding to the charm and harmony of urban space often take many different forms – from tokens of Parisian urbanism uniting avenues and boulevards to closed and calm refuges hidden away from the noise; from places of charm reflecting the history of a district to tiny squares, bearing the spirit of old Paris with its historic cafés and boutiques; from pretty belvederes watching over the marvels of the city to simple intersections honoring personalities from the world of art, science or politics… With more than 365 squares (and a list still expanding), the city of Paris showcases its squares ostentatiously, like a general proudly wearing the honorary medals on his full dress uniform…

The atmosphere:

A major contributor to the feeling of spaciousness, the huge number of public spaces interspersed throughout the city allows the visitor the chance to flee their urban surroundings and imagine themselves as the actor in a play set in a Paris of times long past… In this invitation to a historical and architectural journey, sightseers can take a walk through the magical extravaganza of Paris’ squares and hear the echo of their past.

The cultural difference:

In French, the word “square” stands to describe a small urban green space not large enough to be called a “parc” (where fields of grass are prevalent) or a “bois” (a green space with a more forest-like appearance). Following the pattern established in other European languages, such as Spanish (“plaza”), German (“platz”) or Italian (“piazza”), the French word “place”, on the other hand, is used to describe an English speaker’s equivalent for a “square”. In a nutshell, the French “square” will definitely not be called “a square” in English in contrast to the French “place” which would match an Anglophone’s definition of a “square” pretty accurately.

The largest one:

Designed in 1755, Place de la Concorde is Paris’ largest square. Initially named Place Louis XV to honor the sovereign of the time, the square was renamed “Place de la Révolution” during the French Revolution. The guillotine was later erected here and it was on this square that King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were decapitated. Renamed Place de la Concorde in 1795 as a sign of reconciliation after the mayhem caused by the French Revolution, the square is now famous for the giant Egyptian obelisk which once marked the entrance to Egypt’s Luxor Temple. In 1836, King Louis Philippe had it placed where the guillotine used to stand during the Revolution. In 2000 French urban climber Alain “Spiderman” Robert, climbed the obelisk all the way to the top, using only his bare hands and no safety devices.

The oldest one:

Built by Henry IV to celebrate the wedding of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria, Place des Vosges is Paris’ oldest and classiest square. Located in the Marais district, this early 17^th century chef-d’oeuvre was the prototype of all future European residential squares. What was different about it back then were its pretty identical red brick house fronts built over vaulted arcades erected on square pillars. If you were to walk the square’s surrounding galleries today, you would pass by Victor Hugo’s ex-home, a number of fine art galleries, a few restaurants and a bunch of musicians who please the crowds with their melodies…

The curious fact:

Honoring the memory of sculptor Pigalle, the famously “kinky” Place Pigalle created in 1827 and located just at the foot of Montmartre was famous for its “models’ fair” where painters used to seek inspiration and hunt for models – an institution which disappeared in 1910.

Not to be missed:

Looking for a truly unique square? Then how about going for something hidden, rare and “triangular” (Place Dauphine)? For a really cozy one, enjoy the cheerful village-like charm of Marais’ Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine, a preferred hub for chilling out and having a drink under the Chinese mulberry trees. Known as “the jewelers’ square”, Place Vendôme is the center of Parisian fashionable life and one of the city’s poshest locations famous for its deluxe hotels such as the Ritz. If it’s an animated spot you’re after, the pretty roundabout of Place de la Contrescarpe should be the one for you. This square, formed in 1852, is the epicenter of a very animated quarter which hosts many cafés famous for the artists who once picked them out as their favourite haunts. You are in an artsy mood? You can’t go wrong with Montmartre’s eternal classic Place du Tertre (“the square on the hill”) where art is always in the air with all the aquarelles, melodies, live shows and the simple joie de vivre which saturates the creative feel of the square…

Free skills with Paris’ open-air cooking class

All food aficionados will be thrilled to know that they could rival a real “chef étoilé” after enrolling in one of the free cooking classes offered by the City Council and the French Federation of Amateur Cooks. Set outdoors in the context of Paris’ open-air markets, the classes are a pleasant, unexpected and educational way of acquiring a new skill. All classes take place in the morning and begin at 10am. As for the teachers, all of them are real chefs or professional tutors in different cooking schools across the city. Once you’ve reached the market, you’d start by touring the stands of the merchants in search for their best products, then you’d find your place behind the booth and – equipped with an apron – you will concentrate on the watching the chef work his magic. Free “smarts” in the legendary Collège de France

Dispersing wisdom to everyone willing to learn, Collège de France is an international institution of knowledge and a unique establishment of higher education, where professors (sometimes Noble prize winners of members of the French Academy) give free and open lectures to those considering themselves to be eternal students of life. Au Centre Pompidou – Christo et Jeanne-Claude Paris, le couple d’artistes qui après 10 ans de préparatifs, ont fini par emballer le Pont-Neuf à Paris en 1985. Ils avaient comme projet de faire la même chose avec l’Arc de Triomphe. Malgré la disparition de Jeanne-Claude en 2009, L’artiste Christo a prévu de conclure le projet en 2021, le Centre Pompidou présente la période parisienne de ce couple et met un intérêt particulier sur le projet du Pont-Neuf. La proposition de loi « Louer en confiance » enregistrée par le député Mickael Nogal sera examinée par l’Assemblé avant la fin de 2020. Nous vous expliquons ce que cela pourrait changer pour les locations.

Cette proposition de loi fait des controverses parmi les propriétaires qui louent leurs appartements, les locataires et les agences immobilières, nous vous présentons en bref ce que pourrait changer pour nous tous.

L’objectif annoncé pour cette loi est de rendre la location plus sécurisée pour les bailleurs (propriétaires) et faciliter l’accès au logement pour les locataires, elle est basée en trois aspects principaux :

La création d’un nouveau mandat de gestion pour garantir les loyers

Le gestionnaire serait engagé à garantir aux propriétaires-bailleurs la perception des loyers à une date précise, et il devrait prévoir également une garantie facultative contre les dégradations et les coûts éventuels d’une procédure.

Le projet de loi propose que les frais à payer pour la mise en place de ce mandat soient payés par le propriétaire-bailleur et pourraient être déductibles des revenus fonciers.

La détention du dépôt de garantie par un professionnel de l’immobilier

Afin d’éviter au maximum que les propriétaires encaissent le dépôt de garantie par des raisons injustes, il n’y aurait plus de dépôt directement auprès du propriétaire.

Le locataire et le propriétaire devront trouver un professionnel de l’immobilier qui agira en tant que gardien du dépôt, pour diminuer les litiges.

La limitation à demander un garant maximum par locataire

Si cette loi est acceptée dans sa totalité, les propriétaires bailleurs n’auront plus le droit de demander plusieurs garants personnels à leurs locataires, les garanties locatives telles que Visale seraient des solutions à développer, cela fonctionne pratiquement comme une assurance.

Les questions que la plupart d’entre nous nous posons, se centrent sur les coûts et les responsabilités attribués à chaque partie, c’est un projet de loi à suivre de près, nous vous maintiendrons informés dès que l’Assemblée aura publié leur réponse.

Depuis le confinement, beaucoup d’entre nous avons investi une bonne partie de notre temps à cuisiner, et beaucoup d’entre nous nous sommes rendu compte de l’importance de manger de bonnes choses, moins industrielles et moins transformées. Nous avons découvert pendant le confinement qu’elle a une passion pour le bien être et pour les aliments naturels. La naturopathie consiste à manger des aliments principalement issus de la production biologique et à les préparer le plus naturellement possible, pour bien nourrir le corps et améliorer ses défenses naturelles.

Quels sont les conseils de base pour commencer une alimentation plus équilibrée et naturelle ?

Barbara :

Tout d’abord chaque personne est différente et ce n’est pas que l’alimentation qui joue un rôle important sur la santé, nous savons tous que le sport, et l’alimentation sont des choses qui vont ensemble pour être en bonne santé mais il ne faut pas oublier l’importance d’un bon repos, la maîtrise de la respiration et la méditation. 

En ce qui concerne les aliments, il faut privilégier les produits les plus frais possible, c’est à dire des produits de saison, sans additifs, sans conservateurs et peu transformés. L’inclusion de produits naturels fermentés aide également au développement d’une bonne flore intestinale.

Studios Paris :

Quels sont les bonnes habitudes que nous pouvons adopter pour nos repas toute au long de la journée ?

Barbara :

Je vous conseille d’adopter des routines, une alimentation équilibrée sur le long terme peut être très importante pour votre corps et pour votre santé.

Matin – des repas de préférence salés, les oeufs sont un aliment très riche et complet, des jus de fruits et de légumes ou des smoothies.

Midi – des salades vertes pour commencer, des protéines et des graisses comme l’huile d’olive ou du beurre issu du libre pâturage, de l’avocat, évitez les farines avec du gluten et les pommes de terre qui contiennent trop d’amidon.

Goûter – des fruits, de saison idéalement, ou des noix.

Soir – mangez des légumes et très peu de viande pour permettre à votre foi de se reposer le soir, le poisson est permis en petite quantité. 

Buvez beaucoup d’eau et évitez les desserts sucrés après les repas.

Ian Brossat, adjoint à la Maire de Paris en charge du Logement a annoncé que cette décision va « permettre de récupérer toutes les amendes pour les locations illégales qui étaient gelées »

La Mairie de Paris attendait la réponse de la Cour de Justice Européenne sur la validation de la loi française qui a pour objectif la régulation de la location d’appartements et studios pour de courtes durées.

L’arrêt publié le mardi 22 septembre, annonce que cette loi « vise à établir un dispositif de lutte contre la pénurie de logements destinés à la location de longue durée, avec pour objectif de répondre à la dégradation des conditions d’accès au logement et à l’exacerbation des tensions sur les marchés immobiliers, ce qui constitue une raison impérieuse d’intérêt général.»

Sur le communiqué de presse, la Cour de Justice de l’UE reconnaît que les appartements proposés sur un site internet, ont été loués, sans le permis des autorités locales et de façon répétée à une clientèle de passage.

Ce qui a amené au Tribunal de grande instance de Paris et la cour de Paris à condamner d’une amende de 15 000€ et 25 000€ aux deux propriétaires concernés, et leur demande en même temps de remettre les biens à leur usage original d’habitation et pas de commerce qui est le statut des établissements qui peuvent accueillir de touristes selon le code de la construction et de l’habitation français.

Il ne reste qu’à attendre que la Mairie de Paris apporte les éléments qui servent de preuves sur le fait que la pénurie de logements est liée à ces locations touristiques.  

En attendant M. Brossat a déclaré que « plusieurs centaines de milliers d’euros » pourront être récupérés.  Sur un article publié sur Le Monde, Ils mentionnent que la Mairie pourra ensuite reprendre les procédures contre 350 locations touristiques déjà en cours pour une amende de maximum 15 000€ et que la Ville de Paris estime qu’il y’a au moins 5000 loueurs touristiques illégaux dans Paris.

The Great Mosque of Paris, located 2 bis Place du puit de l’Ermite in the 5th district, its Hispano-Moorish architecture will make you travel, at the same time you can stop and get in to buy delicious oriental pastries and you can sit in the garden of plants just across the street to enjoy them in all serenity.

La Cité du Figuier, in the Oberkampf district, this colorful passage will appeal to all those who love plants, you will find tropical plants that adorn houses and workshops that recall an industrial Parisian era of yesteryear.

Our apartment rental guide in Paris

When you apply for a rental in Paris, any landlord or real estate agency will ask for a proof of solvability. These are the documents that prove that you are going to be able to pay for the rent each month depending on your professional status (student, freelance or employed by a company):

·      You will be asked for your income papers such as your 3 last pay slips and a copy of your contract.

·      Your bank account balance sheet.

If you are a student, you’ll be asked to present your school acceptance letter along with the proof of solvability of the person that is going to pay for your rent or any scholarship or financial help you may have.

The most usual is to ask that the person that is going to pay for the rent, earns at least 3 times the monthly rent amount, otherwise you may be asked to present a guarantor in France that could cover this requirement, an alternative to this is that you hire a rental payment insurance, there are several international companies that provide this service in France and they will basically ask for the same documents that the agencies or landlords will ask for and if the file is accepted, they will present their selves as guarantors in exchange of a commission on the total amount of the rent for the whole period.

In Paris, you’ll be asked to pay for a security deposit of one month of rent for non-furnished rentals and up to two months for a furnished rental, it is illegal to ask for more.

Of course, you will need to also present your ID or passport to prove your identity and a residency status proof such as visa, resident card, or passport if EU citizen.

Any reference or receipts from previous lettings and landlords in France is a plus.

Law obliges the agencies and now also homeowners to present to you the information related to energy consumption and other building diagnostics as well as the details of the price and eventual charges needed to be paid when you rent an apartment.
